Prime Minister of Israel, Ehud Olmert had eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) on Friday, January 12th. The 40 minutes procedure was done under local anesthesia. Although official reports stated that the prime minister had the procedure to improve his vision, speculation was rampant that it was mostly cosmetic.

Cosmetic eyelid surgery is normally done to reduce the appearance of droopy eyelids and bags under the eyes. The procedure involves the removal of fat, excess skin and even muscle from both upper and lower eyelids to give a younger look. The procedure cannot be used to remove crow’s feet from the side of the eyes.   It is a popular cosmetic procedure among Asians to create an upper eyelid crease.
