While nanotechnology has been recognized as a medical breakthrough, it continues to spark fears among many health experts. Cosmetics producers have come under fire for using the relatively new technology in some of their products. This has continued with increasing calls for the issue to be examined more closely.
According to the latest reports online, some cosmetics manufacturers voluntarily imposed a ban on the use of nanotechnology. This is pending a ruling from the FDA on nanotechnology safety.
At the 68th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology the issue was at the forefront. Dr. Adnan Nasir was quoted as saying, “The challenge is that a standard has not been set yet to evaluate the safety and efficacy of topical products that contain nanosized particles.”
