At first glance it seems that Marie Claire magazine scored something of a coup with its latest cover for the South African edition. According to published reports, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton is the issue’s cover model. However, people should not be too quick to congratulate the popular magazine.

Writer Marisa Crous actually describes the photo as “fan art”. It is in fact a highly realistic illustration meant to celebrate the fashion icon status of the Duchess. She is shown in the illustration wearing a brightly colored dress. The issue will be available in August. The magazine had no choice since the Duchess has made it clear that she does not embrace this fashion icon label.
