Updated Mar 14, 2008

Marcia Cross, one of the stars of Desperate Housewives has for the second year running stepped in to lend some celebrity power to the annual “Skin Cancer Takes Friends” campaign. The soon to be 46-year old actress is spokesperson for the Olay and American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) sponsored campaign which seeks to encourage skin cancer prevention.

Cross will be appearing in print advertisements as well as on the web and in-store appearances. The “Skin Cancer Takes Friends” campaign encourages friends to arrange screenings for themselves as well as for at least one friend.

In the campaign’s press release, Cross said that “Having had two family members stricken by melanoma, I`ve become very passionate about helping to educate the public about skin cancer... "Thanks to early detection, both my cousin and grandfather survived the disease, but many people aren`t as lucky… The few minutes it takes for a screening can save your life."
