Nanotech under the Microscope Again

Concerns over the safety of nanoparticles is not settled as regulatory agencies want more research done. In recent writings, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) again highlighted its concerns. The document states that further research is needed on the use of nanoparticle in skincare products and food as the effect on human is still not clear.

 

Based on two new guidelines issued by the FDA, the onus to undertake the needed research is being placed on the companies using them in their products.   It suggests that companies may be asked to prove that their products are safe.

 

These guideline documents are Guidance for Industry: Safety of Nanomaterials in Cosmetic Products and Guidance for industry: Assessing the Effects of Significant and Manufacturing Process Changes, including Emerging Technologies, on the Safety and Regulatory Status of Food Ingredients…
