No Animal Testing in Israeli Cosmetic Sector

Updated Jun 25, 2007

Israel is banning all testing of cosmetics on animals in the country’s cosmetic sector. Imported cosmetics will also face a similar ban by 2009 when no cosmetics that have been tested on animals will be allowed into Israel. The bans were passed by Israel’s Knesset (the legislative branch of the Israeli government). It is believed that this move will impact over 2,000 animals in Israel.

The bill to stop the importation and distribution of cosmetics tested on animals is in keeping with the 2004 European directive which "prohibits the sale and distribution of animal tested products as of March 2009."
