With an increase in disposable income many young Indians, both male and female, are opting for cosmetic surgery to improve their prospects in the marriage market. According to an article in The Economic Times there has been a 25 percent increase in plastic surgery prior to marriage.
The most popular cosmetic procedures are said to be “lip beautification, nose lifts and the removal of facial scars”. Liposuction, hair transplants and breast augmentation are also popular. The trend towards pre-marriage cosmetic surgery is being driven by the desire to get the best match possible. The procedures are mostly being demanded by the 20 to 30 age group.
