A study published by the ASPS (American Society of Plastic Surgery) has confirmed that reality plastic surgery shows influence cosmetic surgery decisions. The findings were published in the July issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery journal from the ASPS.
The study revealed that four out of five persons said their decision to have cosmetic surgery was a direct result of watching a plastic surgery show. It further revealed that 57 percent of the 42 cosmetic surgery patients interviewed said they were ‘high-intensity viewers of plastic surgery shows’. Fifty percent of Hispanic viewers said they were ‘very much or moderately influenced’, while only seven percent of Caucasians said they were.
According to the ASPS study the highest percentage of ‘high-intensity’ viewers were Hispanics with 75 percent, followed closely by African-Americans at 70 percent. Caucasians accounted for just 36 percent of high-intensity viewers.
