Researchers Have Their Eye on Common Aging Problem

Updated Sep 16, 2008

Sean Darcy and his team of researchers at UCLA (University of California Los Angeles) may have found the answer to why under eye bags develop as we age. According to research findings published in the September issue of Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, “…fat content in the eye (socket) increases with age,” and this is what causes eyelids to become baggy as people age. This has thrown out the previously held belief that a weakening of the covering that holds the fat in place was the cause.

Darcy and his team believe that the result of their findings will help in the development of treatment for under eye bags.
