Users of popular wrinkle treatments like Botox have good reason to be concerned after the release of a recent study. According to online reports, the Italian National Research Council`s Institute of Neuroscience examined the use of botulinum neurotoxins. Scientists found that the toxins could reach the brain, posing the risk of brain damage.
Using rats as test subjects, the scientists gave them anti-wrinkle injections. In follow-up tests, they found residue from the toxin in the brainstems of the rodents. This study may bolster the claims of plaintiffs in future lawsuits against manufacturers of anti-wrinkle products. Currently, the FDA requires all such manufacturers to print warning labels for their products.
