According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2006 teen boys accounted for the largest number of male patients requesting breast reduction surgeries. Fourteen thousand such procedures or 70 percent of the total number performed in 2006 were on adolescent boys. The teenagers between 13 and 19 years old all have a condition known as gyneocomastia (enlarged breasts).
Plastic surgeons are divided on the wisdom of surgical intervention on teenagers as some believe that most will lose the extra fat in the breast as they grow older. Moobs as enlarged male breasts are called is due to a number of reasons, including obesity and hormonal fluctuations.
