At the recently concluded American Society of Plastic Surgeons Conference a study was presented that indicated that sagging breasts did not result from breastfeeding. The study’s author, Brian Rinker, MD, stated that “Although the amount of sagging in the breasts appears to increase with each pregnancy, we’ve found that breastfeeding does not worsen the effect.” He noted however, that a higher BMI and larger bra size before pregnancy increases the chance of breast sagging.
Dr. Rinker, according to the press release, noted that the number of children or the length of time each child was breastfed had no impact on whether or not a woman’s breast sags. He said that women who were afraid to breastfeed their babies fearing that their breasts will sag can now “relax knowing that breastfeeding does not change the appearance of their breasts.”
The study group consisted of 93 women who wanted to have cosmetic surgery after having at least one pregnancy.
