A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition revealed that higher intakes of Vitamin C and linoleic acids in the diet improve skin condition. According to the study, 4025 women aged 40 to 74 were studied and those whom consumed more Vitamin C and linoleic acid had skin that had a better appearance than those who had high intakes of fat and carbohydrates.
The benefit of Vitamin C is believed to be derived from its antioxidant properties. Vitamin C is known to play a significant role in collagen production which is important for skin elasticity. The study indicates that reducing the consumption of fats and carbohydrates and increasing the levels of Vitamin C and linoleic acid is “associated with better skin as we age.”
