plastic surgeons in a recent survey revealed that they have been seeing many more patients that need help after having cosmetic surgeries overseas. One of the major problems reported by plastic surgeons was the obvious lack of aftercare patients received in these foreign countries. According to the President of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), Douglas McGeorge, “My experience with patients has shown that counseling is inadequate; the individuals have no idea of the standards of care in the country they are visiting…Follow-up is difficult.” This supports the fact that the survey found that 92 percent of plastic surgeons were worried about the lack of aftercare patients receive.
Fifty-three percent of plastic surgeons saw patients who were unhappy about the procedures they received in
Poland; 44 percent saw patients who had work done in
South Africa and 36 percent reported seeing dissatisfied patients from
Belgium.
