Ten Percent of Cosmetics Imported into China Fails Quality Test

Updated May 15, 2007

According to reports almost 11 percent of cosmetics imported into China do not meet quality standards. The country’s Ministry of Health (MOH) randomly checked 43, 125 cosmetics items in 2006 and found that 10.8 percent did not meet quality standards. The report further noted that the 91.5 percent that were found acceptable was similar for the same period in 2005.

The MOH also found that a little more than eight percent of the country’s local cosmetic products also did not meet the required standards. The market research firm, Kline & Company states that from 2005 to 2006, China experienced more than 13 percent growth in the sales of cosmetics.
