It is believed that unregistered cosmetics being sold in
Ghana are posing a serious health risk to consumers. The country`s Food and Drugs Board (FDB) has issued a warning to importers of these products that they will be punished for non-compliance. The cosmetic items under scrutiny are said to contain higher than approved levels of some ingredients, while others contain ingredients not approved for use in cosmetic products.
According to CEO of the FDB, Mr. E. K. Agyarko, some of the products do not have any English language labels, while others had "obscene and pornographic scenes". Players in
Ghana`s cosmetic sector have been given until the end of August 2007 to become compliant.
