Biracial Beauty

Biracial BeautyWomen who come from a mixed ethnic background often have a hard time finding beauty products designed for their unique hair and skin. Biracial hair can often be a long thick matte of curls that are too thin and delicate for thick hair products designed for women with dark skin, but are hard to tame with products designed for straight blonde hair. Mixing products, and not using too much product on the hair can help achieve the best results. Biracial skin can be difficult to find beauty products for as well. Makeup and concealer are often made in shades that are either too dark or too light. Try these tips for choosing and using products to help bring out your unique biracial beauty.

Try Jojoba Oil for the Hair

Jojoba oil is a natural choice for the hair of biracial beauties because it is light and mild while being an excellent conditioner and moisturizer. Jojoba mimics the hair’s natural oils, so it is a better choice for finer curly hair than heavier creams and oils that will weigh them down.

Know your Skin’s Undertones

No matter what ethnic backgrounds are mixed together, the skin will either have a yellow, orange, or red base tone. Knowing the undertone of your skin will help you choose the right color foundation or lipstick, and will help you blend two tones together if there is not an easily obtainable commercial foundation in your skin color. One way to help you find your skin’s undertone is to wear an orange lipstick and see what your skin looks like against the orange. Another way to figure out your skin’s tone is to analyze your skin in good light when it is clean, but not flushed from a hot shower or recent scrub. Analyze skin that has not been tanned to find your true tone.

Use a Brown Lipstick Underneath Red Lipsticks to Maintain a Red Color

Often, red lipsticks designed to be red on pale skin end up looking more orange or pink than red on brown skin. To counteract this, start with a brown matte lipstick underneath the shade of red. The brown underneath will help deaden the orange and pink, and allow red lips to shine through.

Mix Foundations and End with a Light Powder on the Face for even Coverage

Light brown skin tones can appear blotchy due to uneven tanning and natural coloration variations. Even if the skin is all the same tone all of the time, it is hard to find more than one or two shades of a light brown makeup option. For even coverage every time, don’t be afraid to mix a darker shaded with a lighter shade to create a color that is a closer match to you, and end with a light mineral based powder to help finish the look.
